The narrow settlement of Norman's Bay runs parallel to the shore. The village has caravan parks and the nearby golf course at Cooden is popular with tourists.
This low-lying eroding shoreline is protected by a shingle bank retained by groynes. The shingle and wet grassland beyond is ecologically important for plants and animals.
The possibility of introducing an enhanced groyne system and increasing the beach levels further is being investigated.
