With school summer holidays fast approaching I thought I would update you on this years beach recharge.
As with last year we expect to bring new material to both Beachlands (approx 380-464 Coast Road) and Sovereign Harbour (200m of beach immediately east of exposed rocks). Precise locations will only be decided when work starts to allow for any beach movement between now and then.
We have no fixed dates as yet. Dredger Sospan Dau is now working at Bulverhythe, but she will relocate to Pevensey at some point for about one week at each proposed location. I am hoping that the work can be delayed until after the main school holidays, and thus start in early September. However if there are logistical problems at Bulverhythe it may be that things have to be re-scheduled.
As soon as I have any more details on likely timescales I will pass them on to you.
In September/October we will undertake further beach recycling, moving shingle to restore crest widths at Herbrand Walk fishing station, Normans Bay East, a top-up for Beachlands west of the recharge area, and Sovereign Harbour where necessary. Again once we get nearer the time I will update you with our proposed schedule.
In the meantime if you have any queries regarding the work or the defences in general please feel free to contact me. Equally please pass this message on to anyone else who may be interested in the timing of our works.
Best wishes for a good summer
Ian
