After some interesting weather during December we need to undertake a small recycling operation to bolster those sections of beach where some crest width has been eroded. It is interesting to see how waves from different directions affect various parts of the bay. Both storms, on 2nd and 30th December, came from the southeast, which is the most dangerous direction as far as Pevensey is concerned. Although coinciding with spring tides they were not particularly high, coming on water levels 0.5 0.8m below the highest tides. Had water levels been higher some flooding may well have resulted.
The area most affected was Sovereign Harbour, where 20m of crest was eroded in a 24 hour period, and it is here that work will start on Monday 9th January. It is likely that we will work here for 3 or 4 days before moving east to Beachlands, Normans Bay East and Herbrand Walk. In each of these other locations I dont anticipate more than 2 or possibly 3 days work.
The operation will be Monday to Friday and not start before 07:30 each morning.
If you have any comments or need any further information I will be available via the contact details below each day apart from Thursday 12th.
Best wishes
Ian
