2006 Beach - News - 3rd October

Tomorrow will be the final day of recycling shingle from Cooden to Herbrand Walk after which all plant associated with that work will leave the beach.

Shingle transfer round Sovereign Harbour form Langney will continue until Friday with road lorries running the shingle along the beach from the Martello tower. One resident contacted me this afternoon saying that the lorries were travelling too fast. All drivers have been instructed to stick to a 10mph upper limit and additional signage will be put out tomorrow to reinforce the point. Please let me know if drivers are not sticking to rules they are given. Although we have a banksman in attendance he has to be near the stockpile to help them tip each load and cannot supervise the entire length of the beach all the time. I will certainly take immediate action if such incidents are reported and in extreme cases remove continuous offenders from this work.

I have just heard that Sospan Dau expects to leave South Wales in the early hours of Wednesday morning so could be here as early as mid morning Friday to deliver her first cargo of shingle. Having looked at the weather forecast for Friday however, I suspect she may be delayed for 24 hours or so depending on how her passage around Lands End looks. Either way I expect to see new shingle on Sovereign Harbour beach during this weekend.

As ever if you have any comments or queries please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me

Best wishes

Ian
