2007 Beach - News - 5th January

After some respite over Christmas, shingle has been on the move again, hence the restart of beach recycling back to the harbour. This has now finished in the short term, and from Monday defences at Beachlands and Normans Bay East will be further increased with shingle from Herbrand Walk and Cooden.

Although we have passed the peak of the tidal cycle for the moment, the wind forecast for next week doesn’t look too promising. It is unlikely to threaten the main defences, but will certainly lead to erosion and shingle movement lower down the beach. As a result I could easily see that in a week or so we will need to recommence recycling at the harbour end once again.

I will keep you informed as to how works are progressing during next week.

Best wishes

Ian
