Beach repair works will continue up to Easter and restart afterwards. Today
and tomorrow shingle will be moved from PBSC to Sovereign Harbour revetment.
On Wednesday and Thursday the machines will move to Langney for two days. The
rock spur added to the southern harbour arm to prevent shingle from reaching
the main harbour entrance channel, does not work as well as was intended. At
present the spur is full on both sides and if beach from the downdrift side
is not removed soon, it will be lost completely.
It is a more complicated procedure to remove this shingle since water levels
never drop low enough to allow access around the spur, and therefore a ramp
over it needs to be maintained whilst the work goes on. Equally it cannot be
loaded directly into road lorries and needs to be temporarily stockpiled close
to the Langney Martello tower for a few days.
All being well, we expect to transfer this shingle round the harbour between
Monday 31st March and Friday 4th April
Recycling and reprofiling will continue after Easter, and a survey planned for
Tuesday 25th March should define how much remains to be done to return the beach
to its required condition.
Best wishes for a restful and calm Easter
